Mr iwata standing in water

the  caspian  sea

The Caspian Sea is such a large lake it is called a sea. It became landlocked due to tectonic uplift and a fall in sea level. This change occurred millions of years before Mr Iwata was born.

lake  baikal

This impressive body of water is located somewhere around the area of Russia. It is the most voluminous freshwater lake in the world and could contain over a trillion Mr Iwatas and there would still be room for a few million Shigeru Miyamotos.

yangtze  river

The Yangtze River is the longest river in Asia. Mr Iwata is the fourth Nintendo president.

lake  kussharo

Like Mr Iwata, Lake Kussharo is Japanese. It is said that a monster – called ‘Kussie’ – lives in the lake. There is no evidence to suggest Mr Iwata has ever seen Kussie, or if he even believes Kussie exists.

boston  public  garden  lake

Although largely obscured by trees from this angle, there’s a suspension bridge over the middle of the lake at Boston’s Public Garden.  Similarly, Nintendo, where Mr Iwata works, also has a bridge – the Game & Watch handheld game Turtle Bridge.

river  thames

This oil on canvas by English painter Ernest R. Fox is dated 1884. Incredibly, Nintendo was founded in 1889. Mr Iwata joined HAL Laboratory – a subsidiary of Nintendo – in 1983, around 100 years later.

london  2012  olympics  aquatic  centre

Japan won 11 swimming medals at the London 2012 Olympics. Despite being from Japan, Mr Iwata was not on the swimming team as he is the Nintendo president and not a swimming Olympian.

the  water  out  of  jaws

The 1975 movie classic about a water shark that needs a bigger boat was made by movie director Steven Spielberg. Later in his career, Spielberg attended world famous electronic entertainment expo E3. Mr Iwata is a regular E3 attendee, so it’s possible the two bumped into each other and chatted about Wii Tennis or Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

where  godzilla  lives

Godzilla is a radioactive dinosaur that comes out of the ocean and smashes stuff up. Although not really equipped with destructive eye-laser-beam-eye-laser-eyes, Mr Iwata is very good at holding new technology and having his picture taken and being the president of Nintendo.

Perhaps you'd like to imagine Mr Iwata standing in some different body of water not included here, so please go ahead and do that. Please note that you don't have to be standing in water to follow Shoot The Barrel on Twitter so you don't have to worry about getting wet .

Satoru Iwata is the president of Nintendo, which means he’s in charge of making sure everyone uses a wrist-strap. In his spare time, Mr Iwata enjoys bananas. Here are 9 pictures of Mr Iwata standing in water.
