My focus is the transformation of commonplace material, such as masking paper and tape, into abstract tableaus of repetition and accumulation that serve as vehicles for exploring ideas of liminality as expressed in ritual and ritualistic behavior. I want to achieve a limbic resonance in myself and the viewer by exploring symbolic communication in the hope that it will awaken a deep, collective, subconscious memory of the symbiotic relationship our early ancestors had with the flora and fauna around them. Combining material in such a way that traditional art making craft is suppressed, I will concentrate on the ontological questions my creations provoke and seek a wholeness in my work by blending surface, line, and form into sensory modalities that may include auditory, tactile, gustatory and olfactory stimulation to extend the narrative between the physical and the psychological.
