Community Policing involves focusing on building ties and working closely with members of the community.

Nobody knows a neighborhood better than the people who live in it.  Citizens are the best resource we in law enforcement have to understand what is happening in the community.

Our county covers 1700 square miles and is a unique area to police.  A proactive sheriff's office armed with information from our community members will help direct resources where they are needed.  We need the help of citizens to keep our community safe.

Sustainable technologies represent an

opportunity for the Sheriff's Office to cut the cost of operations and reduce our impact on the environment.

I implemented the first use of hybrid vehicles in the Alternatives to Incarceration Division in 2009.  These vehicles have proven to be reliable law enforcement platforms and have about double the fuel economy of the vehicles we previously were using.

Vision  for the  future

I have been fortunate to lead and participate in many projects over the past 14 years that have helped the La Plata County Sheriff's Office progress both professionally  and technologically.  These efforts  centered around a vision of better service to the community which required coalition building among community stake holders.

La Plata County is facing some extremely challenging fiscal issues over the next few years.  I would like to use my proven leadership, education and experience to cut costs and develop new revenue streams at the Sheriff's Office.  These efforts will ensure the Sheriff's Office is being fiscally responsible and a good steward of the resources the tax payers have given us.

I believe the Sheriff's Office must implement a "Community First" philosophy.  By developing both public and private partnerships in our community and the region, we can focus on eliminating redundancies, combining regional assets, and finding creative new solutions to deliver more effective service to the citizens of La Plata County.
