Reverend Sykes

Reverend Sykes is the reverend of the church Calpurnia attends, and takes Scout and Jem to one day.  It is called the First Purchase M.E. Church.  Reverend Sykes welcomed them greatly there.  The day that the Finch children came, Reverend Sykes would not let the churchgoers leave until they had contributed ten dollars in donations.  The money would go to Helen Robinson, because she had trouble finding work due to the trial (Tom Robinson and his family attended First Purchase M.E. Church).  During the trial, the kids could not find seats in the crowded courtroom, so Reverend Sykes took them up to sit in the colored balcony.  This symbolizes the Finch family’s support for Tom Robinson and the black community in general, and how the Finches look past racism.

Dr. Reynolds is the Maycomb doctor. "Had brought Jem and me into the world, had led us through every childhood disease known to man including the time Jem fell out of the tree house, and he had never lost our friendship. Dr. Reynolds said that if we were boil-prone things would have been different...” He is well known to Jem and Scout. He has a strong bond with the Finches.
